PORCH-Durham

Our Impact

The Need

Food insecurity is defined as limited or uncertain access to adequate food to support a healthy lifestyle. Although we have seen the rates of food insecurity and hunger decline in  recent years, the need remains significant –  especially among children. According to Feeding America’s 2022 data, 19% of children in Durham experience food insecurity. In addition, the NC Department of Public Instruction reports 62% of Durham students receive free or reduced school meals, underscoring the ongoing challenges many families face.
